What is it?

 

The Song Contest is a competition modeled after the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It's a means to gain exposure to new music through the tastes of your peers, like it or not. Those that enter must also vote for the people they are running against based on how much they like the songs. Everyone picks an alias in the form of a country (any one of your choosing, real of fictional. This is solely for anonymities sake) and sends in a song that they like in order to expose it to the other contestants. After voting, they are tallied in the thread and a winner is named. No matter who wins, everyone wins by gaining new knowledge of songs, artists, albums and genres of music in the process!

How to Participate in the Song Contest:

1. Wait for the new announcement for entries.

 

2. Find a song that you like on any internet medium that isn't restricted or private (Youtube is perfect, Bandcamp works too. Do not enter anything which requires signing up or a paid account. No Spotify links allowed).

3. Submit it via this form, email (including your own name), or whichever messaging service you know me on, with the following information:

 

Country

Artist name

Song title

Link to the song

Representative picture of the artist.
 

4. Wait until I reveal the entries.

5. Once entries are revealed, you will rank your top 10 countries! You will do this via a PM to me once again. The point values are as follows:

12 points - Name of your favourite country

10 - Name of your second favourite country

8 - Name of your 3rd favourite country

7 - 4th favourite
6 - 5tt favourite
5 - 6th favourite
4 - 7th favourite
3 - 8th favourite

2 - 9th favourite

1 - 10th favourite

Please rate fairly by giving all countries a listen. You may not vote for yourself. Everyone, regardless of entry or cut status, may vote, so you can still participate even if you chose not to enter or if you got cut! However, if those that entered and are accepted do not vote, they will get a 20 point penalty and be more likely to get cut in the next contest, so please consider that before entering.

6. Wait for results. It's that simple!

What entries are/aren't allowed?

 

You cannot enter a song that has been previously entered (You may enter a cover, but not the same song)

You cannot enter something not considered a song. This will be interpreted loosely, however if it's simply a stand up comedy skit it will not count. Or if it does not have an artist and title.

Due to not wanting bias, any artists that won within the last 20 previous contests may not be entered again (If they are part of another band, then they may be entered). The artists banned via this are, in order of when they won (so the one at the top is next to be freed up, the one at the bottom is the most recent winner):

As a note, if there is a featured artist the featured artist may be entered, but not the main band, so Kayliana could be entered just not S3RL.

What if there are too many entries?

 

While it has never happened, if we ever get more than 26 entries, there will be cuts. This means there needs to be criteria as to what order you will be entered into the contest. So entries will be made in the following order:

1. Anyone who was cut from the last contest

2. The song contest team (just the one of us right now)

3. The top three from the previous contest

4. New entries and everyone who voted in the previous contest

5. Anyone who failed to vote in the previous contest
