And there we have it, the finals have been done, the top 3 are decided, and the best song that was entered into the contest was... one that actually only reached second place to begin with. In a surprise turn of events, VNV Nation's When Is The Future? outlasted everyone else to be declared the best song that had been entered.

Second place therefore goes to The Sound of Silence by Disturbed. Third place is Floor Jansen en Henk Poort with The Phantom of the Opera, and just missing out on the top three is Ciirce by Ghost.

Well done to everyone who took part in any of the contests, and I shall be sure to inform you if we restart these at any point in the future.

Iinteresting facts from stage one of Battle of the Best

Only one song received a clean sweep with the votes, that song being Exile, Vilify by The National.

Two songs only received a single vote during round one, these were Bard by Tripod Vs The Dragon, and Nobody's Wife by Anouk.

Four groups had ties that allowed three of the songs involved to go through. This means four of the brackets in the next round will have 5 songs to choose from, rather than 4. To counter this, in the next round your votes will be weighted. If there is a tie, I shall check to see which song had the most 1st picks of them.

The biggest upset was Bard by Tripod Vs The Dragon being eliminated as it is a previous winner, and was beaten out by Exile, Vilify by The National, which, as stated above, was the only song to get all votes from voters.

No specific Song Contest had more than two entries pass through to the second round.

Only four song contests had just a single entry pass through, three of these were their first places for that contest (Kit - No Mercy from SC 13, RichaaedEB - BAD APPLE!!! from SC 18, and Nightwish - Ghost Love Score from SC 20).

The odd one out is from Song Contest 2 where only Russian Rammstein advanced, leaving both first and second place back in the first group stage.

Interesting facts from the top 16

1 - Only 6 song contests have been completely removed from the running, these are 1, 2, 4, 6, 12 and 18.

2 - Four of those contests had their winners knocked out in the previous round.

3 - Eleven of the final 16 are previous winners.

4 - Only a single third place song is still in the running (Kiyoshi - Hero from SC9)

5 - Only three songs remain after the previous winner has been eliminated. These are VNV Nation - When Is The Future from SC3, Kiyoshi - Hero from SC9, and Alestorm - Drink from SC10.

Interesting facts from the top 8

The only interesting facts from the last round is that no contest has more than one entry left, and only two contests have second places left. These are - Song Contest 3 (VNV Nation - When Is The Future?) and Song Contest 7 (Disturbed - Land of Confusion). All the other songs have been previous winners.
